Innocence Has A Power Evil Cannot Imagine

Pan’s LabyrinthI shouldn’t even be reviewing this movie. It would be too easy. I should just give it a perfect score right here, right now and just save you guys the time and effort you’ll have to put in to read the review. But I loved this movie so much, to not give it a proper review would be a complete insult to the movie, the director and my overall love for Pan’s Labyrinth (El Laberinto del Fauno). The best film for 2006!

If you think about it, fairy tales have always been pretty brutal. Many of the original stories such as Red Riding Hood (the woodsman cutting open the wolf), Hansel and Gretel (cooking the witch), and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (jealousy and death by poison) were terrifying and gory tales. They were meant not to advise children of how to behave, but scare them into behaving as prescribed. The film is a dark and violent homage to those stories of old. However, this moral is reversed instead warning adults to avoid the pitfalls of greed, malice and vengeance. What is remarkable about the movie is how effortlessly it captures a feeling of youthful innocence without relinquishing one ounce of horror.

The Rebellion Begins

537145351_5fa27d467a.jpgIt is the fifth installment of the very popular children’s book which can’t seem to keep itself from further diving into an even darker, scarier storyline. One can’t help but wonder with this movie and the upcoming ones, will kids still be able to watch it?! It is Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix!

This year, Harry is looking manlier, Hermione is lovelier than ever and Ron doesn’t look like the wimpy Weasley he once was! A few more names and characters are added which will be developed further in future installments. One of the things I hated the most was the fact that most of the professors took a backseat role and barely spoke a paragraph’s worth of lines! Truly disappointing, the 5th film is.

It gets a bewitching 2.3 out of 5 or 46% infectious.

Their War. Our World.

TransThere are two ways to review this movie. The first one is to be an annoying know-it-all critic that nit picks at every aspect of the movie like its sound, script, cinematography and the overall story. The other, is by regressing to your childhood memories and remember the little kid who cried when Optimus Prime died, and enjoying the nostalgic trip brought on by the action, the sounds and seeing those cool cars transform into those huge robots. It is, by far, the best movie I’ve seen this year.

It gets an awesome 4.6 out of 5 or 92% infectious

If The Sun Dies, So Do We.

Sunshine It has been a while since I last viewed a movie of this variety in the genre of Science Fiction. As of late, when we mention Sci-Fi, we think of Star Wars or Star Trek. Although both are great additions to the genus, I have always craved for the return of reality in the “science” facet of “Science Fiction.” This is where Sunshine succeeds. This throw back to the classic definition of the genre was a welcome sight to behold indeed. This is what can be considered a thinking person’s Sci-Fi thriller that can deliver what is expected.

The movie offers a chilling look into the future (only five decades from now), and to an eventual end of humanity due the impending death of our Sun. Our only hope lies in a crew of good looking specialists and scientists who will reignite the star with a stellar bomb.
