What Would You Do To Get Out Of A Debt?

Posted in Comedy, Drama, Movies, Romance at 1:45 am by inflickted

zack_and_miri_make_a_porno_ver2_xlgIt would be a desperate man’s last option (fantasy maybe?), if he was backed to a corner financially speaking, and has nothing to lose… Make a Porn Film. Here is a movie which explores just that idea, where in two lifelong friends explore their last “logical” chance to end their financial woes by making an amateur porn flick which they hope would make it big.

This movie has to be one of the least serious movies I’ve seen this year (along with pineapple express), and it was nicely written and of course funny. But I think there’s something in this RomCom other than the story that made this movie work, something that is often not as recognized as the actors, the script or the director. Read on to find out. This is my review of “Zack and Miri Make a Porno.”

In Burges Poster

Bruges is a town in Belgium which is the home of many a famous buildings, museums, beautiful bridges and canals. It is also the setting for a movie that is bloody exciting and darkly hilarious. It’s a killer comedy with valuable dramatic undertones entitled, “In Bruges”.

The movie tells of two Irish hitmen who hideaway in a Belgian city called Bruges. As they wait for instructions from their boss, the two go around town, do some sightseeing and talk about their pasts, beliefs and shame. Things go crazy, emotions get tangled and lives are ended as the story unravels “In Bruges”

There are heroes. There are superheroes. And then there’s…

Here’s a question, why is it, despite Will Smith’s charisma and box office success, he hasn’t played a superhero until now? Plus, the role he plays is a drunk, insensitive a-hole of a superhero. It could be the lack of a “proper” role to play, or maybe because of traditionalist reasons. It could even be a racial thing, but let’s leave that kind of politics to the children. Whatever the case maybe, Hollywood has a way of creating something somewhat original from a pool of what’s already been done. And finally, we see Will Smith in tights and with super powers.

We get a movie about a superhero who isn’t really much of a hero. The film makers treat the genre in a more realistic light, by continuously asking the question: What would a man with superpowers do in a world where he is the only one of his kind? And also, what if the people in that world didn’t like him? It would be an insight – ironically – into the human psyche of a super being living in a mortal world. It has a great premise to back up the great actor. This is my review of the movie, “Hancock”.

We’ve Sensed It. We’ve Seen The Signs. Now… It’s Happening.

M. Knight. Shyamalan has been touted as the next Alfred Hitchcock of movies because of his subtlety in translating horror, thrill and suspense into the big screen. A great example of this is his widely successful and absolutely spine chilling horror, “Sixth Sense.” Ever since then, Shyamalan has been praised for his great attention to character development, creepy moments and twist endings.

Unfortunately, the promising director has been losing his touch with his other offerings. “Unbreakable” was only mildly successful, “Signs” was the same, “The Village” was not as good as hoped and “Lady in the Water” was unimpressive, to say the least. One thing I do notice is that there are certain aspects of the movie which are really good, but in the whole, it cannot be saved by these few gems.

For his latest offering Shyamalan brings back to us his idea of making something so innocuous, be so frightening. Hopefully his downward spiral ends here. This is the review for “The Happening.”

Harold Crick Isn’t Ready To Go. Period.

Stranger Than Fiction“Stranger Than Fiction” is a film which entertained my eyes as well as my mind. At first, I was a bit apprehensive about the fact that Will Ferrell is playing a leading role where in comedy is not the main facet of his character. The movie basically takes a gimmick and makes it touching, which is kind of a role we don’t normally see Will Ferrell in.

An offbeat fantasy, “Stranger Than Fiction” is a romantic comedy which delivers on both (romance and comedy); then completely surpasses your expectations from the genre. There are some glitches here and there in the overall story, but the appeal of the film remains. This was unexpectedly wonderful and fun at the same time. This is my looong overdue request-a-review of the movie “Stranger Than Fiction.”

There Are No Clean Getaways

NCFOM

I have always loved gruesome movies. I think the number of horror film reviews I posted here can prove that. I have seen fountains of blood and chopped of limbs. It is one genre of the cinema that has a special place in my heart. And, if the gore is coupled with excellent story-tellers, what more can I ask for!

The Coen brothers are no strangers to gore and violence. They have created magnificent films and their latest offering is no exception. No Country For Old Men, is a suspense drama that is  set in the western times of Texas. The story and the characters are fueled by fate, carnage, and chances. It is a faithful adaptation of the 2005 novel of Cormac McCarthy.

The Last Man On Earth Is Not Alone

Posted in Drama, Horror, Movies, Sci-Fi, Thriller at 10:50 pm by inflickted

I Am Legend Richard Matheson’s sci-fi novel about the last man left alive on earth has been adapted to film twice, both allegedly with disappointing results. Once again, Matheson’s story is brought to the big screen with the hopes that with a huge production budget and state of the art CGI effects, the post apocalyptic work of fiction shall be given justice.

This is the latest offering from the charismatic actor, Will Smith. What will you do if you were the last person on earth? If you ask me, I would fulfill my every material desire then just kill myself before I go crazy. Anyway, the film is… I AM LEGEND.
